Acirca

Acirca (pronounced /ʌ.sɪɹ.kʌ/) is the largest and most well-developed of the continents of Overside, the world of Evan Dahm's comics. It has been the setting of the three major comics-- Rice Boy, Order of Tales, and Vattu-- as well as the majority of short stories. Compared to Wusterim and Grenth, Overside's other continents, Acirca is generally more civilized and populated by a wider variety of peoples. This may be due to its long history, as Acirca was the site of the Machine Dominion, presumably making it the origin of the Machine Men, the first sentient people to inhabit Overside.
As it is bisected by the Trench, Acirca is usually divided into "western" and "eastern" halves. This conceptual division is further supported by the symmetry of Acirca's curved southern "arms", which nearly surround the Circle Sea. At the center of Acirca is the great desert known to the west as Skortch and to the east as Karrkín. This desert is encircled by the Mountain Ring, which along with the Hornspine makes up the majority of mountains in Acirca.

Western Acirca
Setting of: Rice Boy, Order of Tales, Settling Down
Starting roughly in the Green Age, western Acirca is generally considered the cultural center of the continent, as it contains a number of cosmopolitan cities and a diverse variety of inhabitants. Although the majority of its cities are independent, a few New People empires such as those of the Hornèds, Fin-Folk, and Frog-Men have united larger regions.

The Trench

Setting of: The Jewel of Brambool
While the Trench is home to its own subterranean ecosystem, it is most notable in Acirca for housing the entrance to the last Linking City, Seen. Otherwise, the Trench generally presents an uncrossable gap between the two halves of Acirca. Although it is probable that others have bridged the Trench aside from the Machine Men, only their work has been shown in the comics.[1][2][3]
Fromb
The island of Fromb sits at the southern edge of the Circle Sea, between the two curved landmasses of western and eastern Acirca. It also is divided by the Trench, and is home to Shuregga, named for the warlord Shureg, and the Gecrimaug Barony.
Eastern Acirca
Setting of: Order of Tales, Vattu, The Tethered Isle
Even though eastern Acirca is smaller than its western half, it has a longer history. The Machine Dominion and Rog's successive rule were centered in the east, both empires that date back to the early years of Overside. Later noteworthy groups include the Sahta Empire of the Blue Age and the Torch of the Red Age.
Unlike its counterpart in the west, the southern "arm" of eastern Acirca is known as the Esterteng. Despite its hospitable terrain, the Esterteng is sparsely inhabited.
