The nameless Attendant is a short yellow creature that appears in Part I of The Thinker. It wears a slotted wooden key around its neck, which grants it access to the enormous underground machine that it apparently "attends" to. Although it can seemingly speak normally, the Attendant often makes mechanical noises as it walks around. It travels through the desert atop an enormous wooden bicycle with slotted wheels.

At one point while traveling through the desert, the Attendant happens upon a broken-down T-O-E, as shown in The Thinker. It takes T-O-E and seals him in a small hut at the base of a windmill.
