The Avatars of Space, Time, and Mind are powerful and enigmatic beings instrumental to Overside's existence. After God created the Disk, the Avatars were made from "aspects of Godself", making them the first created entities in the cosmology. The Avatars physically take the shape of pillars, but metaphorically they are also "pillars" that support the people of Overside. While the Giants affected Overside on a grand, visible scale, the Avatars are responsible for more subtle aspects of Overside's existence, such as the Trills. Nonetheless, the Avatars themselves have possibly unlimited abilities, due to their having stemmed from God.

At the start of the Blue Age, the Avatar of Mind was lost to Overside. While this event is connected to the Plague, it is unclear whether one caused the other, or vice versa. Nonetheless, this imbalance in the forces of Overside necessitated direct action by the remaining Avatars, which led to them delivering Ridrom's Prophecy and nominating three Searchers.
