The Blackbirds are a species of humanoid ravens native to the Estring Mountains of east Acirca. In Order of Tales, they are seen working with the second Rog as members of the Torch, often forming the bulk of military companies. Blackbird culture was traditionally very simple, and they do not read or write.<ref>http://www.rice-boy.com/order/index.php?c=526</ref> The arrival of the Torch brought many swift technological advances, inducing a sort of future shock that left the Blackbirds under Rog's totalitarian rule.<ref>Portraits of Overside: Warriors, "The Reach of the Torch"</ref>

However, the Blackbirds' exposure to the rest of Acirca through the activity of the Torch allowed them to take their place as another major civilized species.
