Gerund is a gentle-natured Hornèd from Stonepalm, who left to avenge the death of his brother Infin by killing the Bleach Beast. Gerund encounters Rice Boy when the oblivious Hornèd accidentally eats the latter's sandwich, thinking Rice Boy to be dead. He then proceeds to accidentally cause the destruction of Rice Boy's boat, and eat all the rest of his popping plants. Even after such inauspicious beginnings, Rice Boy and Gerund develop a strong bond of friendship, which lasts them through an accidental poisoning in the Dorlish Wood, a meeting with Father Dimmon in Lonely Land, and beyond.
