Koark (pronounced /koɹk/[1]), a Gaundt,[2] is the main protagonist of Order of Tales. He is the last Teller of Väine's lineage in the Order of Tales, an ancient storytelling organization of Overside. After his parents, Duke Teller Themb and Duchess Strael, are killed by the rogue Teller Gerrah, Koark escapes on a mount from his father's stables, Potok, and wanders Acirca in search of the mysterious tale, The Ascent of the Bone Ziggurat. Fifteen years later[3], a chance encounter with The One Electronic, who promises him information on The Ascent, leads Koark to meet the Bottle Woman and get involved in the re-ignition of an ancient war.
