Machine Dominion

(see also: Machine Men#History)

Before all the creatures of Overside, the Giant Äm made the first Machine Man, Omem: formed of the new rock of the Disk, rough-hewn and simple, given life by the Giant's breath.

Long after the Giants made all things, he wandered Overside alone. Growing weary, he wrought from the earth four sons, who he named Omirm, Omon, Omerr, and Omo. To each Omem gave a portion of the breath that gave him life. The four Machine Sons were smarter and faster than their father, and lesser in size. They built four mighty towers from which they could survey all of Overside below them.

Then came the New People of the Disk. From the seas and from the deep caverns they poured forth, building villages, waging wars, and crowning kings. The Machines watched the New People silently from their towers, and saw that they were small and weak, victims to Death and Fatigue. The Machines came down from their towers, and saw fit to rule over the world. Building armies of soldiers like themselves, the Machines began their conquest.

As the Machines spead across the Disk, one war-king of the New People resisted them for many years. Tall he was, crowned with a horned helmet, and armed with a sword. But as the king aged and slowed, the Machines remained mighty and unbroken. Under the earth, the king was brought to his doom by a tool of the Machines. Thus began the Machine Dominion, unabated.
