Settling Down

Settling Down is a 10-page short story by Evan Dahm, first announced in May 2010[1][2][3], which Dahm began in September 2010[4] and completed in January 2011.[5] It is the fifth short story after The Tusks of Wusterim, and is a direct prequel to Rice Boy, making it the first short story to extend the central storyline of one of the main comics. The story focuses on Calabash's attempt to settle down in Suntown, before he is contacted by T-O-E (as shown at the beginning of Rice Boy).
The tone of Settling Down is much different than the tone of Dahm's other comics, as it is not concerned with quests or battles. Rather, it provides a look at Calabash's life and expands on his motivation to part from T-O-E. The story also shows the relationship between Cal and Suzy, the bartender at the Hideous Child Tavern.

Characters
Seen-Script and Sahta Script Translations
On p5, a stack of books is shown in Calabash's apartment, with titles in Seen-Script and Sahta Script. From top to bottom, the titles of the stacked books read:
- "Cloud Wars" (presumably in reference to the Cloud Wars of Wusterim)
- "Seven Kings"
- "The Rise and Fall"
There are also two standing books to the right; both of their covers read "Gara's Tales" (or possibly "Gerrah's Tales").
