The Warlord Shureg is a military leader from the Isle of Fromb, who is the subject of a story called The Fall of the Warlord Shureg. When Koark tries to tell this story to T-O-E, however, the latter indicates that not only has the story been mythologized and exaggerated, but also hints that he knows the true account. Stymied, Koark goes on to tell Negat the Tall instead.[1]
However, the story of Shureg does not end there. On 24 August 2008, the day p056 was posted, Evan Dahm decided to hold a contest to design the Warlord. Readers were given two weeks to submit entries to a forum thread, and that they would be judged more on creativity than on skill.
The contest received a total of seventeen entries, here organized alphabetically by entrant:

On 9 September, Dahm announced that KRB had won, with his sculpture of Shureg and accompanying description. He also gave honorable mentions to the "picture-stories" by LukeFM and Philippe, and the drawing by Tekkactus, and that overall he was "very impressed" by the entries.[2] Were Warlord Shureg to appear in a future comic, it is possible that Dahm would use KRB's design.
