Taragi
From Rice Boy Wiki
Taragi (also known as the Old Empire or the Empire of Tusks[1]) was a major empire in central Wusterim that lasted over eleven hundred years, from its foundation in Grey 362 to its fall in the late Green Age. Taragi has featured in both the short story The Tusks of Wusterim, as well as "The Tusks Fall" from Warriors. Based on what has been seen so far, the Old Empire was almost exclusively peopled by one species, the species of Gurati and the rebel leader, which is as-yet unnamed. However, Frog-Men were kept as slaves in some areas, and the Acircan population in Sunk may have grown from Taragi ex-slaves.
The Tusks
Taragi is best known for the enormous stone "Tusks"-- pairs of large, white curved towers-- that it built across Wusterim. These Tusks were symbols of Taragi's might, which also served as enormous fortresses. They were built with stone brought from mines in northern Surya.[2], and there were at least eight sets:[3]
- The Tusks of Wusterhart, also known as Taragi City, the capital of Taragi. These are likely the tusks depicted in "The Tusks Fall" from Warriors.
- The Border-Tusks, east of Tulim-Kazoot, which are the setting of The Tusks of Wusterim.
- The Tusks of Gorrk
- The Bay-Tusks, near Zerruch
- The Tusks of Zerruch, which are upriver from the city of Zerruch itself.
- The Field-Tusks, south-east of Zerruch
- The Tusks of Surya, in northern Surya
- The Tusks of Kalith, near that city and New Whetton.
Some of these Tusks can be seen on Viceroy Gurati's map in The Tusks of Wusterim.[4]
Military
The Taragi military is distinctive due to its uniforms, which often were decorated or embossed with depictions of single white tusks. Taragi soldiers often carried two curved swords, and wore tall plumed helmets when fully armored. One such soldier is the focus of "The Tusks Fall", and a helmed soldier appears as a statue in the center of Torchtown.[5]
Taragi's military clashed, in its later years, with the then-young empire of Kazoot.
