Duke Teller Themb (pronounced /θɛm/) is a Teller of Väine's lineage, as well as a Duke of Skystem. He owned a large castle on the southern bank of the lake Stareun, where he resided with his wife, Duchess Strael, and his son Koark until Red 219. At that time, his fellow Teller Gerrah sacked Themb's Castle and murdered Themb and Strael. Before his death, Themb inducted Koark into the Order of Tales, ensuring continuance of at least one lineage, and tasked him to seek out a story only known as The Ascent of the Bone Ziggurat.
Duke Teller Themb was very rich, as he made large sums of money from visitors to his Castle, who would pay to hear him perform a story or sing. However, his wealth also led him to be neglectful of his servants (who had to sleep in the cold outer rooms of his Castle), and may have drew the ire of Gerrah, who tauntingly named him "Themb the Selfish" in their final encounter.
Themb was preceded as Teller by his mother, who gave him her book.[1] Her name is unknown.
